For the educational program “Garden of Life” we designed a simple diary. It contains the basic questions of human existence. Who am I? Where do I come from?… At first sight, these are absolutely banal questions, but they can play an important role in the direction of an individual. I have had the opportunity to meet graduates of the program and their determination and insight is something I wish I had at their age. It makes sense to me that such programs exist just for high school students and can supplement what may be missing in the traditional education system.
The book is color-coded according to the individual weekends that the students will spend in the outdoors. This is also why the journal is protected by a plastic cover. I loved the covers in school. You could scribble on them, write on them, glue anything on them, anything you could tuck behind them. It gives the user the opportunity to finish the cover of the book without damaging it. Jarka and I brought in illustrator and artist Anicka Fiedler to work with us, and we created a set of rather vague drawings that made sense of the theme of looking at oneself. Typography was completed by one and only Jakub Hojgr. Printing and binding were done by Voala. And thanks to Ed Babak for the great photos!
I’m very happy about the whole project. My fingers are crossed for Klara, Libor and the whole garden so that more and more students can take part in this course.
Thanks
H
